Coursera came to Ulatus as they were looking to localize a major portion of their digital technology based courses from English to Arabic, Spanish, Russian & French. The scope included localization of course content , images & subtitles using latest localization tools. The total wordcount for this project was 1.7 million across 4 languages and this had to be completed in 2 months.
This was a large project where we were required to localize technology related course content into multiple languages like Arabic, French, Spanish and Russian. The course content being Technology in nature required linguists with experience in handling similar content. Since these were courses in English, the localization had to be carried out considering the particular locale specific adaptation, for e.g. translation of course content into Arabic.
Considering greater development has taken place in the localisation technology related applications and tools, there is a constant requirement to upgrade and upskill capabilities accordingly. Our client's requirement in this project was that they wanted us to carry out translation using latest localization tools.
The project included a lot of services to be covered in a very short time frame as the client wanted to release the courses which were in English into 4 different languages, i.e. Arabic, French, Russian and Spanish. The total word count to be localised was 1.7 million words, which included course content, images, subtitles and finally we had to upload the courses on client platform.
Review and QA is one of the key parts of the localization workflow. In this project the client had set up dedicated review process at their end. Our Project Management team had to work closely with the client review team in resolving any linguistic issues. Considering large volumes across multiple language pairs, the review process was very dynamic, real-time and our team had to review and get any issues / gaps resolved within 24 to 48 hours.
Ulatus provided course content, images, subtitle localization and course uploads service for over 11 courses in 4 languages totaling 1.7 million words within agreed client time lines.
We managed to meet all client requirements, through some of the key efforts mentioned below:
E-Learning industry is on the up as we speak and considering the current global situation there is a huge demand for course content to be localized into various global languages. And that's where we come into the picture as experts in the Language industry since last 15 years. For this high profile project selecting the right linguists with the knowledge of information technology subject area was vital. We used our proprietary tool that automatically selects an ideal list of linguists from our database that are required for the project. The selection is based on a proprietary algorithm built in our project management workflow system, which selects the best, most highly skilled linguistic team. For this project, we short-listed linguists with expertise in Information Technology.
As we are aware there is a constant upgrade of technology in the localization space. In this project we demonstrated our expertise and knowledge here. For this project as per the client requirement our team of linguists used latest localization tools for translation of course content, images and subtitles. Use of latest tool helped us to cover the large word count of 1.7 million words across 4 different languages, Arabic, French, Russian and Spanish.
The client had a full time QA reviewer to review the entire translated content. The course content, images and subtites were translated in different languages like Arabic, French, Russian and Spanish, so our team had to ensure that there was consistency in style & tone and local adaptation due to regional specific language requirements. The review process was real time and the client reviewer would share feedback on a daily basis on a common platform which was accessible to both the teams and the required updates were done within 24-48 hours.
For effective Project Management, client communication between client and localization partner teams is extremely critical and needs to be managed well. Ulatus appointed a dedicated Project Management lead for this project who was available during the client working hours to manage realtime and continous communication between the client PM team and the respective linguist to ensure every minute update is captured, reviewed and executed by the relevant party on a real time basis. All these measures helped in providing round the clock service to the client and delivering required translation quality output and achieving the challenging timelines set by the client for project completion.
Ulatus team literally provided 24/7 service for localizing the clients technology based course content in Arabic, French, Russian and Spanish languages through seamless client & linguist collaboration approach. The team ensured there were no compromises made in the translation quality resulting in customer delight.
