Project Summary
About the company, what were their requirements and why?
Padlet is a globally loved collaborative platform that allows users to easily create and share digital boards for ideas, notes, media, and discussions. With millions of users across education, business, and personal domains, Padlet's mission is to enable seamless collaboration regardless of geography or language. To further democratize access and strengthen its global user base, Padlet initiated a major localization effort for its app across 44 languages.
Padlet wanted to make its platform universally accessible, engaging users in their native languages across markets in Asia, Europe, the Americas, and the Middle East.
Key Requirements: Leverage Crowdin, their chosen cloud-based CAT tool, for the entire localization process. Source and onboard qualified linguists experienced in app localization for 44 different languages within a tight turnaround time. Provide real-time project visibility on Crowdin to ensure transparency and collaboration. Maintain high linguistic quality with particular attention to UI/UX clarity, tone consistency, and local usability.
The project had to be executed at scale - sourcing over 80+ linguists and enabling them to work within a 2–3 week window to align with Padlet's global rollout plans.
Challenges Faced by Ulatus for the Project
Rapid Linguist Sourcing Across 44 Languages
The scale and diversity of the language requirement meant we had to source, test, and onboard linguists in 44 languages within 2–3 weeks. Many of these languages required niche expertise in mobile app localization, and sourcing had to happen rapidly while maintaining quality benchmarks.
Adaptation to Client's Preferred CAT Tool: Crowdin
Crowdin was new to many linguists in our network. Adapting to the platform's workflow required significant training and technical support to ensure linguists could deliver quality translations efficiently.
24/7 Global Project Coordination
With linguists working from Europe, Asia, Africa, and the Americas, coordinating progress across time zones was critical. Any delays in alignment would have caused ripple effects across the tight project schedule.
Ensuring Technical Integration and Responsiveness
Padlet's app UI involved short strings, contextual terms, and key user interaction elements. Ensuring that every localized term maintained both functional clarity and cultural relevance required ongoing linguistic consultation and real-time clarification handling.
