With all this talk around human writers and AI tools like ChatGPT, we decided to conduct an experiment. We provided the exact same brief with points to be highlighted to one of our writers, who have expertise in the blog’s subject and ChatGPT.

On comparison, the first and most basic issue was the turnaround time. While the human writer took around two and a half working days, ChatGPT took a few minutes. However, while ChatGPT approached the topic from a general point of view and made a holistic argument from a “top-down” perspective, our human author delved deeper- explaining every point from a place that ChatGPT cannot, i.e., “lived experiences.”

While both versions used correct grammar and language, we noticed that while the ChatGPT version had an easier flow for a reader, after a point it got a little monotonous. On the other hand, there were points in the human writer’s version where it might have warranted a second read to understand a point being put across. But, once a reader warmed up to the topic, it was more engaging and there was a very “human” touch to it with variations in tone, emphasis, emotions etc.

So, our verdict? ChatGPT is here to stay, but as a catalyst to boost the efficiency, productivity, and quality of already skilled writers. It’s not here to replace, it’s here to support and enhance. Which blog did you like better? Tell us about YOUR opinion on the ongoing human vs AI battle!

The Growing Importance of Translating E-learning Courses

In a world facing constant evolution, it’s only natural that we find ways to adapt. One particular strand of our society that’s experiencing the effects of this evolution falls with education. Long gone are the days of relying on traditional teaching methods to account for a range of learners. Long gone are the fixed, linear solutions that educators and organizations lean on to supplement their employees’ and students’ learning journeys.

It’s an electronic age, and with this age comes options.

E-learning and the digital shift

Now, it’s no secret that e-learning is benefitting from this shift in the educational and professional spheres. How we access or deliver courses and general learning content has enjoyed increasing convenience and efficiency over recent years. The truth is: while the pandemic was a catalyst, the world of education was always heading toward digital dependency.

More modules are becoming hybrid, utilizing synchronous and asynchronous learning to meet the needs of every student, and learning management systems (LMS’s) are showing signs of becoming even more prevalent. There has even been a noticeable trend of schools becoming ‘Google Schools’ relying on the Drive to keep all learning content in one place, neat, tidy, and ready to go.

So, with the boundaries of the physical classroom becoming less and less tangible, how exactly have traditional teaching methods been improved – or even replaced entirely – by e-learning options? And why are students able to gain more from this change in contemporary priorities?

Students truly benefit from an exposure to e-learning methods

While there is certainly still a place for traditional teaching methods, the impact that e-learning has had on learners cannot be ignored. In fact, it’s projected that the international e-learning market is expected to surpass 200 billion US dollars in the coming years, demonstrating the serious level of resources that have been put into this emerging pillar of education. This paints a clear picture of the global trend that’s happening, with more and more people preferring e-learning over traditional classrooms.

E-learning courses backed by educational and corporate institutes are reaping the benefits of real-time mentoring and one-to-one digital interactions through a variety of online platforms. E-learning breaks barriers, allowing like-minded educators and students to seamlessly connect and step away from the limitations of its brick and mortar alternatives, negating the need to account for geographical restrictions. For example, without the rise of e-learning options, a promising, bright student from a remote town in India would not be able to connect and collaborate with professors from schools such as Harvard or Oxford. A world of opportunities are there to be grasped. Brilliant minds that may have once slipped through the cracks can now be catered for.

Online learning is not only accessible, but affordable

We’ve touched upon why e-learning is the superior option to tackle geographical constraints, but we also need to recognise its financial advantages, too. The cost of a degree in a traditional university can seem like an unrealistic option for many people. Fortunately, with the rise of courses in the electronic sphere, affordable alternatives are now available.

The cost will vary based on the course, but many options have a one-time payment attached, allowing prospective students to gain an arsenal of skills quickly, without breaking the bank. The fact that these courses can be accessed from the comfort of anyone’s home is an added plus. So, we know e-learning is a brilliant option to replace certain traditional methods, but how can it be made even more accessible?

The impact of translating e-learning courses

E-learning translation services are on the rise, and for good reason. Not only are they able to cast a large net, increasing the reach of potential audiences, but they can assist the learner in retaining and recalling content learned from their given course. After all, e-learning courses are only beneficial when their participants can fully grasp the contextual significance of what’s being taught. Companies or virtual schools with multilingual employees and students must cater to the needs of everyone.

If the course is delivered in a language that’s accessible to the targeted demographic, a deeper foundation of learning can be achieved. Learning outcomes are much more meaningful when cultural significance is accounted for. While many multilingual learners are certainly able to learn in a non-native language, research suggests that 90% of people prefer accessing content in their native language. The numbers speak for themselves, and organizations that keep this in mind demonstrate a level of care for everyone involved.

How it works, and why it’s important

The process of e-learning translation varies from course to course, but there are fundamental components that reveal themselves to be fairly typical. Text translation, for example, must account for a number of interactive elements, such as graphics, quizzes, and games, ensuring to format and embed them clearly in the course. Supporting documents need to be translated, including guides, instructions, and general supplementary materials.

The audio recording factor must be considered as well, including the translation of video, narration, and subtitles. This process involves transcribing the audio material before being re-recorded for the desired demographic. Finally, localization must be considered, simply due to the importance of cultural nuances. Intricacies of the translated language should be vetted, supporting ultimate authenticity. A combination of these processes contributes to successful translation; a vital aspect of the e-learning sphere.

E-learning is here to stay

Trends rarely show a dishonest picture of where things are heading. Fortunately, due to the countless benefits, education looks like it’s hurtling into a world of electronic accessibility. E-learning is quickly becoming the most popular way to educate students or employees with a range of needs and learning styles. Naturally, with such a growing element of education, multilingual participants need to be given appropriate support.

E-learning translation not only increases brand recognition, but it allows a wider reach; a wider pool of people to benefit from the rewards of digital education. Limitations imposed on us by geographical constraints or language barriers are rapidly becoming a thing of the past. With increased support and further reliance on e-learning translation services – and e-learning as a whole – more and more exciting avenues will become available for individuals across the world
